Antigua, Guatemala, situated at 5,029 feet (1,533 meters) above sea level has a very moderate, medeteranean type of climate. Daytime temperatures are between warm and cool, and almost always comfortable. The elevation in the western highlands makes the
nights a bit chilly, even in summer.

The climate in Central America varies greatly with altitude. Lowlying coastal regions are very hot. Puerto San Jose´s average daytime high is 91º F (33º c) in April, and 87º F (31º c) in December. High altitutde areas can be much colder. Quetzaltenango, or Xela, has average daily highs of 75º F (18º c) in April, and 61º F (15º c) in December.
Therefore, if you are planning on traveling outside of Antigua, you need to pack for which direction you are going. Up into the highlands means a bit colder weather, and down to the coast or Tikal means sultry, humid days, where you will want something other than a thick pair of jeans.

The rainy season lasts from May to November, and you can expect an afternoon shower or storm about 5 days a week. It isnt the kind of rain that lasts all day, and usually leaves you until about 3 pm to enjoy the sun. Dry season, from December to April is a bit warmer and almost never rains. If you are planning your stay, take into account which season it will be. These are very distinct and exact. So if you come in June, bring a raincoat and good shoes for wet streets. If you are coming in February, be prepared for a dustier, dry climate.
