Who is Tecun Uman
 
Tecun Uman, the official national hero of Guatemala, was the last ruler and king of the K'iche-Maya people, in the highlands of what is now Guatemala. Tecun Uman is considered the representative of his people for the bravery and dignity he displayed in his fight against the Spanish Conquistador Don Pedro de Alvarado. He was slain on February 20, 1524 in the grasslands of the Valley of Olintepeque.

   

Tecun Uman is now remembered both in legend and in history, and his ideal is honored by many paintings, poems, and statues across Guatemala. Each year, February 20 is celebrated as Tecun Uman day.
